Steve Jobs: Almost 3 Years After His Death, How He architected Your Love For Apple©

Copyright © 2014 www.octa.com Happy Anniversary, Visionary!
It's been almost 3 Years since Steve Jobs passed away, and now, there are topics, even discussions, and talks introduced that we've never heard of, not even have the slightest idea that these (Steve's most hidden legendary thought) are still here, even today - and beyond.

We may have gone busy with our day-to-day lives -- using your iPhone, and all these aesthetically designed (both in hardware & software combined, and in concept) Apple products, but this can be the time we can stop for a moment - and listen. Yes, listen to CultCast.
Here's a buzz about Steve, the architect of Apple, showing you how to build a closer and loving relationship with these Apple products.

Blog Site Tweak: Let There Be Comments!

"No one's giving out their piece of comment...", said Pat, while checking his blog site. This should be a nice line in a fictional high-tech or modern-themed e-book somewhere, right? LOL!

How did I figure this out? You can check out my blog: "In-Page Analytics: What Makes You Click?" to know more about how I stumbled upon this very handy feature. Okay, You may have a different blog platform, but the concept should all be the same: Check your post/comment settings, and make sure this is enabled, and configured right. This is super fundamental, you say. Yup, I hear you, and IKR.

This blog will only feature any associated accounts you may have with Google, and that, with Blogger,

For Google Accounts, log in to your blogger dashboard, and select the page you wish to double check if your comments are set in the right way - just the way you want it.

Select Settings on the left side pane. Next, click on Post and Comments. Now on this part, you need to consider who do you think can post comments: Anyone, including anonymous users, Registered users, Anyone with Google Accounts, and the members of your blog.

You can be your own moderator! Check which posted comment is a spam, or a legit  and an honestly said thought. You can select Always if you really want to moderate all posted comments all the time. Sometimes if you have a time parameter - let's say you wish to control the comments coming in depending on how old those posts were. After that, you'll be asked for your email address so you'll be notified every time someone gives out comments about your blog (or can be a spam).

"But I hate Spam!" Doesn't everyone? Aren't we glad there's this Show word verification option, to rid all those nasty bots, and non-bots, once and for all?  Make sure to save those settings, and watch those comments flow!

In-Page Analytics: What Makes You Click?

I just checked and viewed some report from Google Analytics, and boy, did I miss out some nice gems. What am I talking about? The Comments! Now that's why I don't see anything coming in.

How'd I notice this when scanning through Google's report?  Simple, I went to In-Page Analytics, this is under the Behavior side bar, under the reporting tab.

You can also download this cool feature as one of Google Chrome's extension, so you can either enable or disable it anytime you like. You will get this dialog box in case you haven't installed the extension yet. And, you can click on load full view to see all the details of your site/post in a different tab.

Okay, so why am I stressing this out so much? Basic intuition, guys! You get to see how each reader interacts with your site. You can tell which link is clicked and accessed the most, to sum it all up.

Just imagine how useful this would be on your mid-day analysis report, or whatever time you check your site. Isn't technology so Amazing?!

Google Analytics: WIIFM? (in concept)

What's In it For You? Loads!

Think of Google Analytics as your main dashboard to all your blog posts & sites.

Imagine this: You get to track in real time all incoming, outgoing visitors, site traffic, sessions, and site activities (clicks) from and into your website. Make use of those advanced features, and all those Google products you need to utilize to give you more efficiency and efficacy in handling your site's data, and so much more!

This discussion does not include all other additional advanced features you may need, it's out there for you to explore. Plus, there are upgrades for business users with highly complex needs, and I won't be able to cover that from here (lol). A good read would be this: What Google Analytics Benchmarking Means For Businesses, for example

Using Google Analytics can help you make those needed fail-proof decisions in an instant. Think how useful it can be to a small, crawling and evolving site, how much more to a highly complex and structured site/portal! The end result stretches far into limitless possibilities, and this makes it more exciting!

I guess this should work something like this: Google Analytics is your main outer core, or the outer box, (the size of this outer box will depend on your site's potential to grow, but of course, it's dimension continuously grows - theoretically & physically speaking) where you need to implement all concepts and planned ideas about your blog sites.

But you have to put in mind what specific content you need to work on. As you put in more details, you'll be considering the level of each content, how each of these would affect other ideas you might add in the future. You need to put those concepts into properties - like boxes where you can add in and sort all ideas as they become your blogs, or site details as you continue (a sitemap comes into play in this part as well, though this should vary).

Before Google Analytics can track all your content, and your soon to be site, you need to initiate a Property Tracking ID. This chunk of number is like a chip, or a tracking number in a shipment if you will, where it can be traced, and observed, with all traffic data that comes in and out of your site. These data are then sorted and processed, which then becomes your detailed report, the information you need so you can change and improve your blog site/website's image over the internet.

I almost forgot to mention, that as you view these information, you will see all trends: You'll discover what specific topic is a hit, at what age group and demographics it highly favors from, which country and geographic setting your topic reaches out the most to, and if you are a business owner then you will benefit more - tons of processed info are at your fingertips, and I can imagine how amazing that thought process should look like from here!  That's pretty much it, I suppose.

box within a box concept
So now we have the Tracking ID, that's enclosed within an outer box, or Properties. What's next, you ask? Well, now that you've seen (conceptually) the ever expanding outer box, you need to have another box inside, which also has a potential to grow dramatically in size. These Tracking ID's are now incorporated into your ideas, as these becomes your blog posts, your blog sites, your website, etc.

Now, you will see that  there will be partitioning or a need to divide and categorize your content as you see fit. These processes goes on a loop every time you add content, but the thought structure is pretty much the same. Bottom line: planning is the key - start with the end in mind. (I need to remind myself that most of the times).

Process me a replacement, I'm still under warranty!

(3:40 PM Philippine Standard Time)
I found something funny somewhere, and I can much relate, since I worked as a Technical Support way, way back.

Hey Steve, get me your manager in pronto!
I'm in memory lane right now, as I write this blog. But this is just funny.

Most customers, or consumers in one of the LOBs I worked with, usually call every tech support someone else's name. When you introduce yourself, you say your name, and since this is mostly about products not working as it supposed to, then they (consumers) vent out, and call you another name.

And I know how it feels like, being irritated or frustrated, since everyone is a consumer in one point or another.

It's somewhat funny now, but it happens. And I can't complain. It's how it works. Check this pic out.

How To Let Google Find Your Site

So now you have finished blogging, you've got your own page/post, then you test it by going to Google.. typing in some texts found in your most recently created blog. But to your surprise, nothing even showed up! You see other posts, but not yours. Why is that? You asked..

Well, if you try to think of it, maybe Google hasn't crawled your site's index yet, seems logical right? How can anyone find what you've just posted if Google's web crawler hasn't seen your site's page index yet.

Now, without further ado, here's some steps to help you get going:

There are 2 approach here, which might look similar, logically, but you'll see the difference later on..
© copyright 2014 Google

1st Approach:
Submit your site's URL:

  • Go to this link, where Google will let you add your site's URL (the link is here)
    • You need to check after 24 hours if your site can now be searched
    • Sometimes it takes lesser than 24 hours, but you decide.

2nd Approach:
You can add, & manage your newly created site(s):
mine, for example

  • If you have a Google account, and use it most of the time, then this will help you sort things out (click here)
    • Here's where you can add / delete your sites, if necessary.

There you go. That's how to let Google find you! Just look into the light :)

Scrambling, Multitasking ...

How does one Multitask..

Do you see yourself like an octopus? with a lot of things going on all at the same time? which one to juggle? which one should be done first?

"Here you are, reports due by Wednesday", says your colleague.

 © copyright 2014 quickmeme.com
"Don't forget our meeting tomorrow at 3 pm", one of your associates reminded you.

You do have all schedules and meetings booked in your calendar (You might be using any calendar apps or reminder apps that your smart phones or iPhones have), but you still keep up and can't finish anything you've just started.

Well, there's a cool way to exercise your brain. Generic suggestions would be:

  • play a musical instrument
  • play chess with someone
  • get to know latest events by reading magazines, newspapers
  • avoid watching TV

etc...

And the not so conventional approach would be to try sites which offers multiple cerebral tests & engaging games, challenging your wits. And there are other sites that opens your mind to new ideas.

One that I know of:
Lumosity - this site provides huge ways to help improve your brain muscles. Discover your inner octopus!

© copyright 2014 abriraqui.net
And, one site I just found out that brings out the inner geek in you (Geek isn't a bad term, it does not connote any negative meaning whatsoever. In fact, it's cool, and if you're one of them, then you're in the in crowd).

I think there's an online mascot right now, called "Multitask Octopus" this might be trending already, or should be trending by now.

And I'd like to share this blog site: www.abriraqui.net, and I landed on this part of this site right here. I know there are millions of tech sites out there.. but something that tackles the linux kernel, just for a hobby, is a tough read

To sum it all up, multitask is subjective, it depends on each individual how you gauge yourself. I, myself, am  not that good when it comes to multitasking.. but I'm getting better.. Wish me luck!

How To Add FeedJit into your Blogs (via Blogger)

Hey guys,
Here's another helpful widget you can use for your blogs. Meet Feedjit.
Feedjit helps you track live traffic feeds from your blogs. So every time you post, you get to see visitors reading your materials, but the difference is, Feedjit gives that reader's or visitor's specific location (citing the city which you're currently in). So, without further ado:

  • Next, you can customize how your live feed tracker should look like:

  • Once you're finished, you can click on Go. There's a drop down menu where you can select another blog site option
  • Clicking Go allows you to either log in to your Blogger account (step 1), applying the changes into your blog once you've signed in (step 2), Or to copy the whole script into your clipboard - this is helpful if you're much used to manually adding the script yourself

  • Just to refresh your mind on how to manually add the script, just go back to your blogger post, and select Layout
  • Then click on Add Gadget, now look for the HTML/JavaScript widget
  • This time, just simply copy/paste the script you got from feedjit, as highlighted below:
After those steps, you can just drag the newly added feedjit widget anywhere in your layout.

How to add Flag Counter into your Blog (via Blogger)

Okay, so here's how to add a flag counter in your blogs on Blogger. This widget is helpful when you want to check how many visitors read your blogs, and basing their IP address to know where each audience are located. How do you add this widget, you asked?

  • Edit how you want your flag counter should look like, see image on the right, after that, you need to click on get your flag counter button (highlighted) to proceed
  • Type in your email add

  • After you typed in your email add, you will see the HTML Code page. You'll need this HTML script later when you go back to your blogger home page
  • Go back to your blogger home page and select layout:
  • Select add gadget, and look for this gadget: HTML/JavaScript
  • Lastly, copy/paste the HTML code you got from flagcounter.com as shown below:
Since you now added the HTML/JavaScript widget into your layout, just simply decide where you want to put this gadget.

Author's Greetings (What's Up With Me!?)

Hello All!
Welcome to my Blog site, it's been a super while, but thanks to a recent change in lifestyle (got my stable internet connection), everything seems possible now!(virtual - can you even consider that word these days?) Possible, meaning I can post my random thoughts, things I'd like to share, neat stuffs I find online, which might benefit others too, I hope, and others..

I'm into watching walkthroughs nowadays. I am a follower of TheRadBrad, it's a good channel on youtube, where all gamers watch new game releases for this year, and his other compilations from previous years, so forth. I'm going to share more about that later on..

My major hobby is purely listening to a huge array of music genre. I try to keep up with local OPM bands that stands out, branch out to foreign artists, get stuck with Punk Goes Pop..., with their latest release Punk Goes Pop 5, I can also promote artists here, those that get into my radar (artists that fit my musical taste), so that will be handy soon.

I'm into photography, so you guys will see some pics posted here and there, taken here, locally in the Philippines, some abroad.

I can post news that give delight to all, don't want to put something that would just put a dark cloud in your weather..

Okay, so the pleasantries are passed out, and again, I welcome you all to my blog site.

Cheers,
Pat
