Technology Of Waste Management

It has always been into my attention how ruthless & killing pollution can get. From bad to elimination of the whole life forms in our planet. How did I come up with that thinking? Well, it's easy. No one can deny third wold countries suffer the most, contributes the most both solid, and non-solid wastes.

How poor our generation, and incoming generations can become, as long as pollution will always be the number one topic in every G8 summits. There is no better time to act than now.

I may just be of good writing this post. I am bleeding to death as to how I can contribute, even to my own ways, and lessen the impact of adding up more garbage in my town's garbage landfill. In Cebu, Philippines, I can say I feel sorry, and deeply troubled how cunning and indifferent people are when it comes to taking good care of the environment. We have no solid waste facilities, even proven waste disposal technologies, thanks to those elected local government officials who just sit in their office and wait for paychecks to arrive. Great! Thank you very much for serving our country to the most selfless and unfathomable love you offer to your fellow citizens!

Now, enough ranting. If one can look up other developed countries' way of handling dirt, gunk, and the nasty garbage their citizen produce, truthfully, solutions are everywhere, proven, working, and sound.

I came upon Anaerobic Digestion.

Anaerobic Digestion
is a series of biological processes in which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. One of the end products is biogas, which is combusted to generate electricity and heat, or can be processed into renewable natural gas and transportation fuels.

This is one of many options, hopefully feasible in our country.

Biodegradation

is the disintegration of materials by bacteria, fungi, or other biological means. Although often conflated, biodegradable is distinct in meaning from compostable. While biodegradable simply means to be consumed by microorganisms, "compostable" makes the specific demand that the object break down under composting conditions.

How does microorganisms come into play? I'm just curious as these are alien technologies to me. It's easy to be so fascinated with all these advancements.

So these techniques can be further developed, as I found out there is

Aerobic Biodegradation (w/ Oxygen)
Anaerobic Biodegradation (w/o Oxygen)

I can list a few more, but I can stop here, as I recall there has been a recent issue where a large bulk of garbage has been dumped illegally, via shipments through cargo ships, in Manila, just a year ago.

Will there be a greener solution to this mess that is proven, that works? I guess I will never know, unless these advancements are pro-actively introduced in our country, good luck to us.
